Copyright, Scholarly Use and Rights Information
Purpose and scholarly orientation of the DLBT
The Digital Library and Bibliography for Literature in Translation and Adaptation (DLBT) is a university-based scholarly research infrastructure. It supports non-commercial scientific research, documentation, teaching and knowledge exchange concerning literature in translation and adaptation, translators, translations and their reception.
The DLBT stores, manages, documents, analyses and, where legally permissible, provides access to bibliographical information, research data, translations, reception documents, paratexts and related scholarly materials. Its purpose is to facilitate research into literary translation, cultural transfer and literary reception across languages, periods and cultural contexts.
The DLBT is not operated for the purpose of commercially exploiting third-party works. The inclusion of bibliographical records or research materials in the DLBT is intended to support scholarly documentation, research, verification of research results and related educational and cultural purposes. Access to particular source materials may be restricted according to copyright, licensing, research, data-protection and institutional requirements.
Copyright and third-party rights
Copyright and other intellectual-property rights in materials made available through or processed within the DLBT remain with the respective authors, publishers, photographers, designers and other rights holders unless expressly stated otherwise.
The inclusion of a work, image, reception document, book cover or other protected material in the DLBT does not imply that the University of Vienna claims copyright ownership in that material. Where third-party material is displayed or otherwise used, the DLBT seeks to do so on the basis of an applicable licence, permission, statutory exception or limitation, public-domain status, or another appropriate legal basis.
Bibliographical information, independently generated scholarly summaries, analytical classifications and other research information should be distinguished from the underlying source materials. Copyright-protected source documents held within the research infrastructure are not made publicly accessible merely because they form part of a research corpus.
Notice-and-take-down procedure for rights holders
The DLBT takes the rights of authors, publishers, photographers, designers and other rights holders seriously. Despite careful rights assessment and documentation, questions concerning the status, attribution or permitted use of individual materials may arise, particularly in relation to historical or archival sources.
If you are a rights holder, or are authorised to act on behalf of a rights holder, and believe that material available through the DLBT infringes copyright or another right, please contact us at dlbt@univie.ac.at.
To help us assess your request efficiently, please provide, where possible:
- your name and contact details;
- identification of the work or other protected material concerned;
- the URL, DLBT record identifier or other information sufficient to locate the material;
- a brief description of the right you claim and the basis on which you are entitled to assert it;
- an explanation of why you believe the use is unauthorised or otherwise infringes your rights; and
- where relevant, information concerning the correct attribution, rights holder or licensing status.
We will acknowledge and review substantiated notices as promptly as reasonably possible. During the review, access to the material may be temporarily restricted where appropriate. We may request additional information where this is necessary to assess the claim.
Where a notice is well founded, the DLBT will take appropriate action, which may include correcting attribution or rights information, restricting access, replacing material, or removing the material from public access. Where the DLBT concludes that continued use has an appropriate legal basis, we may retain or restore access and will, where appropriate, explain the basis of that decision to the person who submitted the notice.
Submitting a notice does not automatically establish infringement, and temporary restriction or removal does not constitute an admission of infringement or liability.
