Building on the findings of the predecessor project Exil:Trans, it aims to reconstruct the translational dynamics of the period from 1945 to 1960 and analyze the cultural and societal interactions that resulted from the experiences of exile.
The central research questions include: How did the experiences of exile shape translation practices in the fields of literature, science, and society? What role did exiled translators play in shaping the cultural landscape of the postwar period in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland? To what extent did the translational activities of exiles contribute to societal transformation and the emergence of new cultural and scientific structures in the postwar era?
The project seeks to explore these questions from a transcultural perspective, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the complex interconnections between exile, translation, and societal development in the postwar period.
