This project sets out to gather and document the published translations of the Austrian translator Marie Franzos (1870–1941). It concentrates on first book editions as well as translations printed in newspapers and periodicals. Franzos began her translation career in 1894, and, during her lifetime, her work continued to appear in the press until 1940. Although some of her translations remain in print today, no comprehensive bibliography of her oeuvre has ever been compiled.
This project represents the first step toward filling that gap. By assembling this material, we can begin to examine Franzos’s translational activity quantitatively and better understand her contribution to the dissemination of Swedish literature around the turn of the twentieth century.
